Privacy Policy
Cineory treats user privacy as a core principle. This policy explains which personal data is processed when you use the Cineory iOS app, how that data is used and the choices you have about your data.
Last updated: 28 September 2026
1. General information
Cineory is an iOS app that lets you discover and track movies and series and build your personal cinema archive. This policy describes the data processing practices of version 1.0 of the app.
2. Our data processing principles
- Only the data required for the app's features to work is processed.
- Personal data is never sold, rented or shared with third parties for advertising.
- The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash reporting SDKs. Your data is not used for ad targeting, ad profiling or tracking across apps and websites.
3. Account and profile data
You can create a Cineory account using Sign in with Apple or Google sign-in. The following data is processed for your account to work:
- Name and email address
- User ID (a unique identifier assigned to your account)
- Profile details such as username, display name, bio and favorite genres
If you choose to hide your email address when signing in with Apple, the relay address provided by Apple is processed instead of your real email address.
If you choose to upload a profile photo, it is stored in a private, non-public storage area and used on your profile.
4. Content you create and save
Content you create and save while using the app is stored and linked to your account. This includes:
- Your watchlist and the notes you add to it
- Favorites
- Movies and series you have watched (watch history)
- Your ratings
- Custom lists you create
- Watch progress
- Watch links you add
- Your notification preferences
This data is used to provide app features such as building your personal archive and keeping it in your account. A copy of this content may also be kept on your device so the app runs quickly.
5. Search history
Cineory keeps your last 10 searches on your device. Search queries may be sent to the relevant search services in order to provide search results.
6. Feedback and support
You can send feedback from within the app. When you send feedback, the following information may be sent along with your message:
- Your user ID if you are signed in; otherwise a note that the feedback is anonymous
- App version, iOS version, device model and language/region setting
- The status of the feedback and the time it was sent
This information is used only to review your feedback, fix issues and improve the app. Feedback may be forwarded to our team by email via Resend.
7. Notifications and device registration
If you allow notifications, your device's push token together with the app version, time zone and language are stored and linked to your account so that we can deliver notifications such as release date reminders. Notifications are delivered via the Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
You can change your notification preferences in the app and your notification permission in iOS Settings at any time.
8. Third-party services
Cineory uses the following services to operate the app:
- Supabase: Account and authentication infrastructure, database, profile photo storage and server-side operations.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and push notifications (APNs).
- Google: Google sign-in (via OAuth through Supabase).
- TMDB (The Movie Database): Movie and series information is retrieved server-side from TMDB and content services. Posters and backdrop images are loaded from TMDB's image servers.
- YouTube: Trailers are shown through the embedded YouTube player.
- Resend: For forwarding feedback by email.
These services process the data sent to them in line with their own privacy policies.
9. Data security
Communication between the app and the servers is encrypted over HTTPS/TLS. Your session details are stored on your device in Apple's Keychain. Access rules and security controls that restrict access are applied on the server side.
These measures rely on the security mechanisms of the platforms and services we use. No method of transmission or storage is completely risk-free, but we take care to apply reasonable measures to protect your data.
10. Data retention
How long data is kept depends on its type and purpose. Your account, profile and content data is used to provide the related app features. When you delete your account, the server records of this data are deleted; however, some data such as feedback records (with the account link removed), the profile photo file and local data on your device may remain under certain conditions after account deletion. See the "Account deletion" section for details.
Search history is limited to the last 10 searches in the app.
11. Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time in the app via Profile → Settings → Delete Account. When you delete your account:
- Your profile and the user data linked to your account on our servers (watchlist, notes, favorites, watch history, ratings, custom lists, watch progress, watch links, preferences, notification settings and device registrations) are deleted.
- Your sign-in identity (account details) is deleted.
- Feedback records you sent earlier are not deleted; the account link in these records is removed.
What you should know about the current scope of account deletion:
- Your profile photo file is not automatically deleted from server storage during account deletion. If you would like it removed, contact us at the email address below.
- Content kept locally on your device (such as your watchlist, favorites, watch history, ratings, notes, lists, watch progress and search history) is not removed from your device by account deletion and may remain on it.
12. User rights
You have the right to access your personal data and to request its correction or deletion. You can delete your account from within the app. For other requests, contact us at the email address below.
13. Children's privacy
Cineory is not a service directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
14. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when needed. The current version is always published on this page and the date at the top of the page is updated.
